New Innovation Of Bionic Hand

Since creating the first bionic hand in 2014, a team of scientists have developed the hand so that it can sense touch and can be worn out of the lab.

Almerina Mascarello was it’s first user. She lost her left hand after an accident which happened almost 25 years ago. She says the hand has enable her to carry out simple everyday tasks such as getting dressed and putting on shoes.

The hand works by having sensors in the fingertips that are linked to a computer which is carried around in a backpack. This then converts signals into language which the brain then understands. The information is then relayed through tiny electrodes, which are implanted in nerves in the upper arm.

The hand is yet to be modified so that the technology can be more transportable and can be commercialised.
